What have I done!

I think I made a mistake. It'll grow back, it'll grown back, it'll grow back...

Yup, that's right. I shaved his head this weekend. The poor thing developed some sort of rash all over his scalp, so in anticipation of the meds that I'll likely get from the doctor's I decided to shave his head to make it easier to apply. And in the middle of shaving, and with his fine baby hair falling to the floor, I realized that I had made a horrible mistake! What happened to my baby! Now I'm stuck with this toughy 2-year old.

Lu was great by the way. I asked him if I could cut his hair and he said "yep" and climbed into the chair. It must've felt good because he kept asking for more.

Daddy got his hair cut too!

It'll grow back, it'll grow back, it'll grow back...

Chuck E. Cheese

Two weeks ago Lu came down with the coxsackie ("which involves neither" as Tom likes to say). It was a little weird seeing all of the kids in daycare covered in a red rash.

Auntie Lisa got Lu the quintessential kid's toy -- Snoopy Snowcone Machine. He loved it.

Lu was invited to his first birthday party and it was at Chuck E. Cheese! Let's just say that C.E.C. wasn't as nice as I remember it.

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round

All through the town!

Update! Update! Update!

Lucius peed in the potty this morning, on purpose! He said he needed to poop...he sat, and sat, and sat, and sat. Tom took him off to put his diaper on so we could go to daycare. Lu threw a fit exclaiming "Poop! Potty! Poop! Potty!". So, Tom put him back on the potty and about two minutes later Lu peed in it. Of course he'll tell you he pooped but really it was just pee. Woohoo!

No, I don't expect him to be potty trained anytime soon. But this is a start.

And he slept until 6:45a this morning! Light on and everything.

Oh, and definitely no more nuk. Hasn't used it since I last posted. Well, that's really because Tom and I took it away so it's impossible for him to use.

Update! Update! Update!

I'm happy to report that we're 24+ hours nuk-free. Tom and I decided to bite the bullet and take away Lu's pacifier cold turkey. The boy did AMAZINGLY well. I'm so proud of him. It's as if he was a drug addict going through detox. I've been telling everybody the great news.

The Firehouse

This week was 'Week of the Child' in Middletown. So we went for a tour at the Firehouse and saw Lu's artwork at the public library.
Lu was pretty shy at first. It took him awhile to take to the fire engines.

But he finally warmed up and drove the fire engine.

This was my first time at a Firehouse. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it more than Lu! The firemen were so nice. They told us about the different trucks they use.

They demonstrated the mask that they use.

We got a tour of where they eat, sleep, and watch TV. And they even slid down the pole for us!

Of course Lu had to slide down the pole too.

They had a table full of free stuff so Lu made out with a hat, coloring book, crayons, and a sticker badge.

Then we headed to the library where all of the kids from the local daycares and preschools had artwork hanging in the Children's room.

Mother Goose showed up for story time and some songs.

There was also a ton of crafts to do. Whew. What a fun morning.

Post Birthday Post

I think Lu's birthday was a success. Thanks for all of the birthday wishes!
I brought cookies (Tom made chocolate chip and I made snickerdoodles) into daycare Wednesday morning for Lu's birthday "party".
Everyone sang "happy birthday" and he got to blow out a candle. As you can see he was very excited to be the center of attention!

Unfortunately my video camera wasn't working so I couldn't get any video. Poop.

I stuck around and got some really cute pictures of all the kids. It was the first day of nice spring weather that we've had!

Now that Lu's 2 he can go on the big climber at daycare. It's actually quite high and Lu came this close to falling off of it. Scared him pretty good. So good that after five minutes of trying to coax him down the slide I had to climb up the dang thing and get him down.

The original plan was for me to make a cake when Tom suggested that I make an Elmo cake since his Mom made character cakes for all of his birthday. To which I politely responded that if HIS Mom made the cake then HE should carry on that family tradition.

And so he did...

It came out great! I think this should be his job from now on. Are you with me?

Of course Lu got lots of cool presents. A book reader from Grandma.

A bubble machine! This is the best invention ever. No more hyperventilating while trying to blow a measly bubble through a little wand.

A cool puzzle with different locks. Don't worry, I'm not sleeping.

A Dr.'s kit. Lu knew exactly what to do since he's had to accompany me to the allergist weekly for the past 6 months.

Don't worry. The allergist doesn't do this.

This is what happens when cake, black icing, and little boys mix. Zorro!!

Lu had his 2 year check-up today and he did great. He laid very still on the exam table while Lynda felt his belly ("it tickle"). I was very proud of him. Unfortunately, that's the last time we get to see Lynda (unless he gets sick before we move). He went to her from day 4 and she is such a great practitioner. I hope we find someone similar in NJ. Due to the move I got a copy of his complete medical file and now we're one step closer to cutting ties in CT.

Weight: 32 lbs.
Height: 36 in.
I guess he's back up to the 90%tile for height and weight. My arms kept telling me that he got heavier!

Happy Birthday Lucius!!!!

Happy birthday to Lu
Happy birthday to Lu
Happy birthday dear Lucius
Happy birthday to YOU

I took this pic this morning at his daycare "party". I asked him to "smile and say cheese" and this is what I got.

I'm old

I thought I'd take a minute to see what my old band, The Black Crowes, were up to. New album out and a VH1 unplugged episode. Since when have I become the old out of date fogey? Oh yeah. When I had a kid. My god, 3 years ago I would've known the exact date of the album release and had preordered tickets to their show. Now I get to watch them on youtube. Great.

Click here if you want to see the unplugged version of their latest single.

Guess what Lu loves.

Sardines.

and back rubs. Hmmmm....sounds like his Mommy.

Surprise! Lu's pregnant and he's ready to "pop".

Here's our stash of moving boxes. We got a bunch of free ones this weekend from someone advertising on freecycle. Probably not the safest place to store them though.

Me on a Sunday morning. Thank god I noticed my other sneaker under the table, or else I would've left the house like this. This is what couponing does to you.
